From mud to mantel

  1. 1

    Wedge it

Knead the clay until the air bubbles are gone, so it dries without cracking.

  2. 2

    Squish it

Pinch, coil or slab the shape around a lighter. Fingerprints stay in.

  3. 3

    Carve it

Eyes, teeth, horns and tentacles go on while the clay is still workable.

  4. 4

    Dry it

Slow, patient drying so nothing warps or splits.

  5. 5

    Paint & check

Colour, gloss and a final check that the flame end stays wide open.

Who's the dealer?

MUDDEALER is a tiny studio that turns lumps of clay into lighter cases with way too much personality. Devils, eyeball monsters, octopuses and one very smug blue guy.

Everything is sculpted and painted by hand, so you get wobbles, thumbprints and attitude. That's the point.

Don't be dumb

  • Clay is not fireproof. Keep the case away from open flame, and never hold the lighter lit against it.
  • The top of every case stays open. Never block the flame, the wheel, the vents or the fuel fill.
  • Let a hot lighter cool before you slide it back into the case.
  • Dry it, don't soak it. Wipe with a soft, slightly damp cloth.
  • Lighters are for adults (18+). Keep them away from kids and pets.
